IN the Following government advice, advice from the FIEC, and in agreement with the school, we are suspending all our gatherings as a church for the foreseeable future.
This decision affects all our church meetings:
Stopping meeting together is not something we do lightly! The Bible is clear that meeting together is a vital part of our Christian lives, as well as one of its greatest joys (Hebrews 10:24-25).
The best way of looking at this decision to stop meeting together for a season is as an act of service to the people around us, in particular the most vulnerable. This is a decision motivated by love for others, and not by fear.
We're looking into different ways of continuing to encourage one another in the word of God and through prayer in the weeks ahead. We're using the Zoom video conferencing app to continue to worship God and pray together on a Sunday. Please use the contact form here to find out more and request an invite to join. Our 'This Week' page gives details of regular uploads to the Avenue YouTube channel.
We will continue to seek ways of gathering together. When restrictions allow we are able to meet at Knighton Free Church on a Sunday afternoon. These meetings are limited to a safe number of participants and a full set of regulations and procedures are being followed to keep all participants safe. Please use the contact form here to find out more and request an invite to join when we are allowed to do so.
Even though we can't all meet together physically for a while, let's keep reminding ourselves and one another of who our God is and who we are as his people in the days ahead - 'a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession' (1 Peter 2:9).
Let's seek to love one another and share things we can be praying for one another. Make a phone call or message someone to see how they are! Let's love one another deeply, just as our Father in heaven deeply loves us.
A friend of mine pointed me to some words of the apostle Paul's to the Colossian Christians: "though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is." (Colossians 2:5)
The earthly reality is that we will be physically absent from one another for a time; the heavenly reality is that the same Holy Spirit dwells in each one of us and is at work within us, drawing us together as he draws us to Christ. None of us is alone during this time. The God of all love, compassion and grace is with us. Let's encourage one another with that great truth in the days ahead.
This decision affects all our church meetings:
- Sundays at Avenue Primary school (both mornings and Five27)
- our homegroups
- our youth groups on a Thursday and a Sunday night
- all other church groups.
